hochkogel hike

Easy hike with summit ascent

The Hochkogel mountain at 2249 metres is perfect for those who want to conquer a peak without taking any risks. The long approach to the Hacklbergeralm hut can be shortened by travelling by car through the Schwarzachergraben and parking just below the Hacklbergeralm. It is there that the hike itself begins. The first section leads up to the Hacklbergersee lakes at approx. 2000 m (walking time: 1 hour). The second section is a little more challenging but never dangerous. However, the final approach to the summit of the Hochkogel mountain is the most difficult of the three sections and requires sturdy footwear (walking time: 1 hour). From the top of the mountain you will enjoy fantastic views of the craggy Steinernes Meer and the icy glaciers of the Hohe Tauern. On the way back, why not reward yourself with a snack at the Hacklbergeralm?
Those who like to combine hiking & biking can ride to the Hacklbergeralm by mountainbike (approx. 1 hour).
The Hochkogel mountain can also be reached in 3 hours via the Schattberg cable car (total walking time: 5.5 hours)

Tip!  Drive to the Hacklbergeralm to shorten the hike. Let us know if you need any advice.
Important! Sturdy shoes are required for the final ascent to the summit.
