hike for guests of all ages
Easy family-friendly hike suitable for pushchairs and buggies
This hike is perfect for stretching your legs after a long day in the car travelling to the Rosentalerhof. Lasting a total of 2 hours, it starts at the Reiterkogelbahn cable car (just 5 minutes from our hotel) and takes walkers of all ages and abilities into the rolling Pinzgauer Grasberge mountains. What's more, the ride on the cable car is free thanks to the fact that all guests staying at the Rosentalerhof receive the Joker Card for the duration of their stay. From the top of the cable car there are two walks: one heading east, the other heading west.
The walk to the west (left) takes you towards the end of the valley, over rolling hills and through thick forests on the Kodok mountain as far as the Rosswaldhütte hut (30 minutes). The trail is suitable for pushchairs and buggies. At the hut there is a slide and sandpit. While the children have fun playing, adults can enjoy the excellent homemade food. Our tip: try the "Kaspressknödelsuppe", a hearty soup with a cheese dumpling.
Delicious blueberry ice cream at the Reiteralm hut
Walkers who head east (right) at the top of the cable car will soon notice the gentle aroma of rosmary, mint and sage filling their nostrils as they pass the Hinterglemm Herb Trail on the way to the Reiteralm hut (20 minutes).
Tanja Kees, who runs the Reiteralm hut, uses the many herbs native to the Alps to make delicious herb smoothies. Also, don't forget to try the blueberry ice cream!
On the way back to the top of the cable car there is a small Motor Skills Trail with balance beams and other stations for children.
Info: ideal for a short walk on the day of arrival as well as for young children; trail is pushchair-friendly; easy to return quickly to hotel in case of bad weather.
Hiking at the Hochkogel mountain
The hike up to the top of the 2249-metre-high Hochkogel mountain is a challenge for experienced hikers. Spectacular views at the top are the reward for all that hard work.
Sunrise hike to the Tristkogel
There are few experiences like watching the sun rise from the top of a mountain. At the Rosentalerhof you have the chance to do exactly that in the company of a trained mountain guide.
